September in Japanese is not too hard to remember. As long as you remember that it is the ninth month then you are all set! Just add 9 to the Kanji for moon. I’ll explain more below.

What is September in Japanese

September in Japanese is 9月くがつ. If you want to write that in Roman Characters it is kugatsu. Basically, in order to say September in Japanese, just remember the number nine and the kanji character for moon. 9 in Japanese is ku or 九. So you can also write September as 九月 in Japanese. This is exactly how all of the months in Japanese work.

The Old way to say September in Japanese

If you are curious there is an old or more traditional word for September in Japanese. It is 長月ながつき. This word was used in the old Japanese calendar. This again in Roman Characters would be nagatsuki.

Putting it all Together

So kugatsu is September in Japanese. You can write it as the following:
